Sinopsis :Framed in the 1940s for the double murder of his wife and her lover, upstanding banker Andy Dufresne begins a new life at the Shawshank prison, where he puts his accounting skills to work for an amoral warden. During his long stretch in prison, Dufresne comes to be admired by the other inmates -- including an older prisoner named Red -- for his integrity and unquenchable sense of hope.

The movies is very good and near spellbinding. I have seen it more than once. Every time I see it playing on TV, I still watch it. The plot, the acting, the dialog are very good. You do tend to lose yourself at times. The plot is also unusual. It also has some my favorite lines.
But, I am really surprised to see Shawsank Redemption at the top. I guess, most people look for entertainment value and overlook things that are not very possible. The movie tends to be a bit unrealistic for certain events. They could have made it more realistic, since everything else was done to perfection.
Should you watch it? Absolutely.
Should you give it a 9/10 rating? I am not so sure.
I, like most of the people I have known in the past thirty years or so that discuss movies find that some stick out as gems. This is not one. Since this movie came out, no one of dozens of people that are my friends have described it as the best movie ever. In terms of its rank on IMDb, is TSR overrated? YES! I went to about twenty other movie sites before I stopped looking and only found it on only one site within the top twenty. Just try it yourself. You won't even find it in the top fifty on most. Better than "The Godfather", no. Better than "Citizen Kane", maybe - (another overrated movie). Se7en is a more engaging movie in terms of relationships between people. Shawshank Redemption is like a vanilla R rated Disney movie, but enjoyable nonetheless. I don't dislike the movie. I just do not understand the complex and secret algorithms that IMDb uses. On some pages IMDb claims to explain its vote calculation methods to you and on others it says that it will never disclose its method of calculation completely. Maybe they have a system that works but is not perfect. It certainly does not coincide with the number of people that have seen a particular movie. Maybe the compensation for the fact that far fewer people have seen TSR than The Godfather is a factor.
